Hello Beautyowls!

One of the beauty product categories I love to test is, foundation! The explanation is simple, I never had a naturally flawless and even-toned skin and by getting older one becomes more and more aware of imperfections.

Since I can remember I had problematic skin. Prone to imperfections as a teenager, moving on to cystic acne as a young adult and now having the first signs of aging knocking at my door.

To be sure things are not as bad as they used to be but I came to terms with the fact that my skin is a sensitive breathing organ, that can easily get off track by hormonal changes, environmental influences, careless nutrition, and stress.

However, over the years, I have learned to be grateful for my sensitive mixed-complexion. I have learned to carefully decode the signs it gives me and in turn react with countermeasures. So, that’s my short backup story as to why I like foundations!

At the same time, I have a bad conscience applying every day a layer of foundation for 8+ hours which admittedly isn’t good for any skin. To top it off most foundations contain ingredients that are not very beneficial.

To find an alternative I came across Kjaer Weis and her organic beauty line. Instantly intrigued by this line I quickly took a closer look at her refillable compact cream foundations that promised coverage, longevity and beneficial ingredients. I sourced out the nearest retailer and went to swatch the foundations myself since the images online are a bit misleading. Also, the range is only limited to 10 shades, and the product is quite expensive. (74.- CHF for 7,5gr)

I chose the shade Lightness which comes in a beautiful metallic, heavy packaging with Kjaen Weis’s Initials engraved. The packaging slides open like a fan. The foundation is pigmented and offers good coverage yet at the same time, it feels very lightweight. The product can also be used as a concealer, but I wouldn’t recommend packing it on too much because in my case it did cake up wherever I used additional product for spot concealing.

I like applying this foundation with my fingers and not as much with a brush nor a Beautyblender since the thick, cream to powder and -strangely enough- a bit gritty formula pulls on my skin (the grittiness disappears as soon as the product comes in contact with your skin). I even like to apply the product on the back of my hand first to let it warm-up a bit and then apply it on my face, which makes it my prefered foundation in terms of fast application in the morning.

In my case, I avoid using an oil product before application since I have a mixed complexion and the formula does contain numerous beneficial oils such as, Sweet Almond Seed, Coconut, and Jojoba, that nourish the skin during wear time.

This product would also be an excellent option for dry skin types when combined with an oil product prior application but also for oilier complexions since oil counteracts oil (just set the product with some translucent setting powder in the end like I do).

One most interesting observation I made, was that this foundation starts looking better the more time passed and as soon as my natural oils start mixing with the formula.

I love this foundation, and I couldn’t recommend it enough! It’s quick and easy to apply plus it has excellent ingredients, so I don’t have a bad conscious wearing it all day. The skin looks evened out, well moisturized and plump with a natural silky finish. The product didn’t break me out, didn’t oxidize, nor did it clog my pores. Although the shade is a bit too light for me, I make it work by adding a bit of bronzer so if you are lucky to find one shade that matches you, then give it a try and let me know your thoughts.

This is for sure my go-to everyday foundation which I will continue using and most likely repurchase. Despite the fact that the price tag is high, I found that the way it performed in combination with the beneficial ingredients, out of which a minimum of 95% comes from organic farming, to be justified. So if you are looking for an organic, and pigmented foundation with great skincare ingredients, then give this one a try!

As always, I hope that you’ve found today’s post helpful. Should you have any questions about this product, please let me know in the comments below, I would be glad to help you out!

Till next time,

xoxo from Zurich,
