Hello Beautyowls!

Did you know that only 30% of women are using a primer in their everyday routine? But why is that, since priming is considered to be on of the most crucial steps on our daily makeup application?

Here are 5 facts you should know about and why you should consider including this particular step to your beauty regime:

1) The primer is applied after your skincare routine and before your makeup.

You can use your specific skincare routine before applying your primer. However, it is important to leave some time before the two applications. This will allow your pores to absorb the product/s and provide your skin with those important ingredients.

2) A primer acts as a shield and it prolongs the longevity of your makeup.

Imagine the primer like a breathable mask. For best results start applying your makeup when your primer isn’t fully dry but rather tacky. This will allow your foundation to literally stick to your face and look flawless for hours.

3) Not every primer is the same.

There are a ton of primers on the market, addressing different skin types and skin concerns so make sure to research a bit before you go and buy one. Small testers would be the most effective and affordable way in order to find the best possible primer that works for you.

4) Not every primer works well with every foundation. This is a trial and error approach.

You should also keep in mind to use same based products, for example, water-based primers with water based foundations, silicon based primers with silicon-based foundations etc.

5) There are three main face primer categories

The Mattifiers, the Smoothers and finally the Illuminators.

Mattifying primers are best used for oily to combination skins. Smoothing primers are best for more mature skins that show signs of aging. Finally, Illuminating primers are used for dryer skin types. Finally, you can also find primers that are not only silicon-based but cruelty-free, as well as, vegan.

Apart from the face primers, you can also find, eyeshadow-primers, lip-primers, pore filling primers and even eyebrow-primers.

Now! Let’s take it a step further and mix and match different primers in order to achieve the best possible results for a flawless makeup day. Like you could mix your skincare beauty masks you can also mix your primers, especially if you are having a combination complexion (like mine). Use the primer-mapping technique in order to customize your primers and in order to achieve flawless makeup days.

Primer-mapping is easy, all you need to do is to identify your face into different zones, depending on its needs and then select the appropriate product for this particular zone. For example, with my complexion, I tend to apply my primers as illustrated below.

I am currently loving the primers from Estée Lauder. They work really well for me, they feel very lightweight on my skin and they don’t clog my pores plus they make my makeup last a super long time.

As always Beautyowls, I hope that you found this post helpful. If you have questions, comments or suggestions please don’t forget to leave them in the comments section down below. Let me also know if you’re also using this Prime-Mapping technique and if not would you consider to give it a go? Which are your favorite primers and for which skin type?

Till next time,

xoxo from Zurich
